Speech Language Pathology Intern: Fatima Khan

Fatima is originally from West Palm Beach, FL. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University and is currently in the Graduate Speech Language Pathology Program at Jacksonville University. Fatima anticipates graduating in May 2024.

During her time at JSHC, Fatima will be under the guidance of Dot Bourgeois. She is most excited about working with the pediatric population. Fatima has always had an innate ability to work with the pediatric population and it gives her much joy and satisfaction to see the results that come out from the therapy services. As an intern, she has yet to gain experience from the deaf and hard of hearing population and eager to learn and increase her interaction.

Fun Fact: Fatima loves spicy foods and “setting her mouth on fire and feeling the warm arm rushing out of her ears.” She also has a 3-year-old Shih Tzu named Theodore and enjoys long road trips with friends and family.

Sofia is originally from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. She is currently an undergraduate student at the University of North Florida studying Interdisciplinary Health Studies. Sofia anticipates graduating in Fall 2023.

During her time at JSHC, Sofia will be under the guidance of Chandra Manning. What excites Sofia the most is being able to learn about the process of speech pathology, work with kids and broaden her knowledge. What she hopes to learn is how the people are diagnosed, how the therapies are given and see how you communicate with every person depending on their disorder.

Fun Fact: Sofia has played for the Puerto Rico Women’s National Soccer Team!

Emma is originally from Rockford, IL. She is currently in the Graduate Speech Language Pathology Program at Jacksonville University and anticipates graduating in April 2024.

During her time at JSHC, Emma will be under the guidance of Melissa Vincent. Emma is excited to work in a clinic for the first time and help out as many kids as possible! She hopes to learn more about giving assessments since she did not have much opportunity for it in her last placement.

Fun Fact: Emma has a one-year-old puppy, loves spending time with friends and family, and travel in her free time.

Keara is originally from Bradenton, FL. She is currently studying to receive her degree in Health Science with a minor in Psychology and Health Education and a concentration in Public Health at the University of North Florida. Keara anticipates graduating in Fall 2023.

During her time at JSHC, Keara will be under the guidance of Chandra Manning. Keara is looking forward to positively impacting individuals who come to the clinic. She hopes to learn more about speech therapy and communication disorders.

Fun Fact: Keara has been a cheerleader at the University of North Florida for 4 years.
