People connect through communication. When the ability to speak or process language doesn’t exist or is lost, the effects can be profound. In children, speech and language disorders cause problems at school by impacting the child’s ability to learn. Poor self-esteem and behavior problems can lead to a lifetime of isolation. As adults, untreated communication disorders make it difficult to retain employment, enjoy gathering with friends and family, as well as contribute to depression and affect your brain processing.

At Jacksonville Speech & Hearing Center, we provide services to help individuals of all ages develop better speech and language skills and to educate their loved ones on how to promote speech and language skills in the home. We provide diagnostic evaluations and treatment of speech and language problems including:

• Autism spectrum disorder
• Oral motor speech disorder
• Receptive and expressive language disorder
• Voice disorders
• Stuttering/disfluency
• Apraxia
• Processing
• Literary/dyslexia
• Articulation/phonological disorders

How Do I know if a Loved One or I has a Speech or Language Disorder?

You don’t. That’s why we’re here. If you suspect or have noticed any of the following signs, come in for a Speech-Language Evaluation:

• Difficulty producing speech sounds correctly
• Trouble producing speech sounds fluently
• Issues with own voice resonance
• Trouble understanding others
• Difficulty sharing thoughts, ideas, or feelings in spoken or written format

The results of the Speech-Language Evaluation will help identify the causes and characteristics of each patient’s communication disorders. Following evaluation, our Speech-Language Pathologists will develop a therapy regimen tailored to each patient’s developmental needs, identifying individualized exercises and goals for success.
